Frequently Asked Questions of Laurie
Q: I’m confused. I thought you were Laurie Laughlin. But this says Laurie Ayers. Same person?
A: Confusing isn’t it? Trying being Laurie Laughlin when Aunt Becky, Lori Loughlin (Lori with an O, not A) got herself in trouble for a college admissions scandal. She committed the crime, and I’m the one who was tainted and had to change my name.
Q: How do you pronounce Ayers?
Q: Are you clean or dirty?
A: I prefer clean comedy which is generally appropriate for all audiences. However, that said, there is no one universal definition of “clean comedy.” We will have a candid discussion beforehand to determine the audience and your definition of clean – meaning Rated G, or Rated PG. That way, you will get the set you are expecting.
Q: What’s the difference between a comedian, humorist speaker, and infotainer?
A: Potayto Potahto. Here is how I personally differentiate them: A comedian tells jokes generally with no purpose other than to make others laugh and forget about their problems for a bit. A humorist speaker and infotainer are similar in that their presentation styles are generally more funny storytelling with a purpose/message, sharing some information designed to teach and make others laugh.
Q: What are some of the topics you talk about?
A: Y’know, generic, lighthearted subjects such as gun control, mandatory vaccines, religion and politics. Okay no. My humor is aligned with life experiences and observations we all face. My most requested presentation on in the topic of resiliency: Ditch the Disaster Mentality: Go From Fizzled Out to Fired Up. It’s impactful, memorable, and funny. I also have professional experience as a lie detector, therefore you may hear funny stories about liars and detecting deception. If you’re looking for something specific to your industry, let’s talk.
Q: Who are some of your favorite comedians?
A: The top two that come to mind are Jean Carroll and Chonda Pierce. Jean was one of the first female stars of mainstream stand-up comedy who blazed the trail for all the other female comedians who came after her. Chonda’s hilarious take on life is easily relatable as she draws humor and good from every situation. As for the guys, I love Ray Romano’s delivery and experiential humor. He does an excellent job connecting with his audience.
Q: Is that your natural color?
A: Yes this is my real hair. I was born a redhead but went prematurely grey, or white as gingers do. So now I have a little help to get to the root of the problem. Thanks for prying.
